REANNZ Lunchtime Session: eduVPN

September's Lunchtime Session provided an overview of eduroam and covered the pilot deployment of an eduVPN solution for Malaghan Institute of Medical research. The session looked at the technical elements of the deployment, as well as the ease of rolling it out to users with the ready to use client apps.

Abstract:

September’s Lunchtime Session will be jointly presented by Vlad Mencl, Senior Software Engineer and Yesh Ramesh, Senior Network Engineer, with contribution from Marie Armstrong, Head of IT at Malaghan Institute of Medical Research.

During the lockdown period REANNZ engineers were able to support the IT team at Malaghan Institute of Medical Research with the deployment of a pilot VPN solution. Research teams at Malaghan had been experiencing issues with their existing VPN platform both in scaling and capability during the move to working remotely.
 
This Lunchtime Session will cover the deployment of the eduVPN from a technical perspective as well as the ease of rolling it out to users with the ready to use client apps. We'll take a look at how eduVPN supported the research team’s transition to distributed working and remote access of their data quickly and securely.

eduVPN is a VPN solution provided for and by the international R&E community that aims to offer both secure access to networks and the internet. eduVPN service instances can be offered by NRENs or universities, research labs and R&E organisations.
