From the CEO

Kia ora tātou

I am delighted to join REANNZ at this exciting juncture and look forward to working with members and the community to lead REANNZ through this next phase of its development.

In my first weeks I have been impressed by the passion and commitment of the REANNZ team and Board of Directors, to support and enable data-intensive research and collaboration, within New Zealand and across the globe. This same commitment is evident in my meetings so far with members of the university and CRI sector. I look forward to meeting many more members over the coming months as I familiarise myself with this community.

My key focus is on developing a close working relationship with the community and to bring alive our commitment to establishing a consultative group under the Community Collaborative Framework (CCF), which is set out in the Membership Services Agreement. The Board and I are committed to increasing transparency and ensuring community input into key decisions and investment points. We want to ensure that we are aligned and able to meet the current and future needs of our members and the eResearch community.

Another goal is to provide more value to our members and to increase understanding of how we can support and enable data-intensive research. Our new website offers a greater depth of information to support this goal. Take a look – you’ll also see recent case studies about: how the Dunedin Study is using the REANNZ network for a world-first collaboration with Duke University in the USA; NIWA’s recent 11TB transfer over 24 hours which was part of an International Panel on Climate Change collaboration with the UK Met office and the Korea Meteorological Administration; and how Weltec and Whitirea have developed and implemented a new firewall for a complex 10-campus site.

In addition, our monthly lunchtime sessions offer the opportunity for technical discussions and presentations with members and the eresearch sector. The September lunchtime session on 18 September was on how to talk to researchers about their research. Check our website for more details and for copies of previous presentations.
