Partners

Partners are organisations that have a role in providing, co-ordinating or administering education or research. This includes private sector companies that partner with or supply content and services to our Members or Associate Members, government agencies, partners and hospitals. There are three classes of Partner and a Network Aggregator class. KAREN Partner description and list

Research and Education Partners are primarily involved in the provision of education, training or teaching, conduct or co-ordination of research, or the administration of those activities. Research and education partners can access KAREN for these purposes.  They are not allowed to use KAREN for their other business activities.

Content and Service Partners are any supplier organisation that wishes to provide services to Members or Associate
Members. See our Service & Content Partner policy (pdf, 78KB) for full details.

Technology Partners are organisations wishing to conduct technical trials or pilots on KAREN.

Network Aggregators deliver the power of KAREN to smaller members who may not have the resources required to manage a core KAREN connection.   An Aggregated Service is a combination of a connection (layer-2) service and a traffic management (layer-3) service.  Aggregators can use their own, or any other compliant, connection (layer-2) service, such as an offering from a local open-access network provider. See our Network Aggregator policy (pdf, 155KB) for full details.
