REANNZ has developed have a set of criteria against which nominations for the KAREN awards will be assessed. The criteria cover KAREN applications and use, promotion, championing, service, and leadership.
The KAREN awards will recognise people who have:
The awards are progressive, so that each level of award recognises an increasing contribution in the key areas outlined above. They relate to the amount and duration of contribution.
Additional value is placed upon contributions that extend the reach of the community and demonstrate achievements only possible using KAREN.
This is the first level of award. A KAREN Enabler is someone who has made a valuable, positive, and recognisable contribution to the KAREN community. They will have demonstrated at least one of the criteria described above.
This is the intermediate level of award. A KAREN Champion is someone who has made a consistently strong, positive and well-regarded contribution to the KAREN community. They are an active advocate for KAREN and influencer within their organisation and/or the wider KAREN community. They will have demonstrated achievement in three or more of the criteria described above.
A KAREN Fellow is someone who has made a contribution that is outstanding, exceptional, and significantly above the call of duty across most or all of the criteria.
As the top award, an individual nominated for a KAREN Fellow award needs to have demonstrated a few additional qualities. These may include the following:
